Governor & First Lady to Host Final Blaine House Food Drive Donation Day

Augusta, Maine - Mainers will have one last chance this Saturday to donate food to the Second Annual Blaine House Food Drive, hosted by Governor Paul R. LePage and First Lady Ann M. LePage.

Members of the public are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to the third and final donation day being held this fall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. After dropping off their contributions, donors are invited to tour the residence, enjoy light refreshments and meet the Governor and First Lady, who initiated the food drive in 2011.

All collected food – which last year amounted to thousands of pounds – will be given to the Good Shepherd Food Bank, which will then determine the communities that need it most and distribute the donations accordingly.

“The holidays are quickly approaching with the winter months, and it is important that we reach out to those in our communities who have hit a rough path in their lives,” said Governor LePage. “In these tough financial times, many families are struggling to make ends meet. I have been in their shoes before. The First Lady and I are happy to open the Blaine House and do what we can to help those Mainers who are in need,” continued the Governor.

“Good Shepherd Food Bank is very thankful to have the support of the Governor and his family, along with all the community members who will make donations during the Blaine House food drives,” said Kristen Miale, president of the Food Bank. “As we prepare for the long winter ahead, the Food Bank is working to make sure we’re able to provide an ongoing supply of high quality food items to our 600 hunger relief partners across Maine. These food drives will certainly help us reach that goal.”
