Department of Labor Assists Nexxlinx to Fill 400 Call Center Positions in Orono

*Nexxlinx awarded FEMA contract to assist with Superstorm recovery*
Bangor, Maine - In response to Nexxlinx's immediate need to fill 400 call center positions in support of Superstorm Sandy recovery, the Maine Department of Labor, through the Bureau of Employment Services, is offering a variety of resources to the company as it begins to recruit employees to work at its Orono facility. These jobs will last anywhere from two weeks to six months. The department encourages all interested individuals to apply for these positions.

Job seekers interested in the temporary call-center positions can start applying on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, by visiting the Bangor CareerCenter. All positions are posted on the Maine Job Bank, and qualified registered applicants are receiving email notifications of this hiring opportunity and how they need to apply. Both the CareerCenters and the Maine Job Bank are free services of the Department of Labor.

Upon arriving at the Bangor CareerCenter, applicants must complete an online application and pass a short skills test. Candidates meeting those requirements will be directed to Nexxlinx to complete the rest of the hiring process, including customary background checks, credit checks and fingerprinting.

On Tuesday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded Nexxlinx a contract to be the direct telephone point of contact for disaster applicants registering for federal disaster assistance in the wake of Superstorm Sandy and for callers seeking referrals to a variety of relief programs.

"Nexxlinx has a week to fill 400 temporary, full-time positions - about 50 per day - and we're calling on the CareerCenter, Maine Job Bank, the University System and the Veterans Administration to help us help Nexxlinx find qualified candidates," said Department of Labor Commissioner Jeanne Paquette. "This is exactly what we want to do - help employers find good employees."

Successful candidates need to be 18 years old and a U.S. citizen. Bi-lingual ability, specifically Spanish, is a plus. Agent salary is $11.69 per hour plus $3.71 additional for Health and Welfare for a total of $15.40 per hour. Supervisors will earn from $18 to $20 per hour, depending on experience.

"We're thankful for the support from Department of Labor, and it's great to see private companies like ours work so closely with State and Federal agencies in the aftermath of this horrible tragedy," said Craig Mento, CEO of Nexxlinx. "We anticipate the good people of Maine will help support this effort."
