Congresswoman Chellie Pingree statement on Hostess strike

The following is a statement made today from Congresswoman Chellie Pingree on the Hostess strike.

"I was very disappointed that Hostess has not been able to come up with a deal that was acceptable to the men and women who work at the plants in Biddeford and around the country. This appears to be another unfortunate example of an outside investor who seems to have been more interested in extracting concessions from workers than investing in the company and its employees. The bakery in Biddeford is modern and efficient and the workforce there is dedicated to producing a quality product. I'm hopeful a buyer who is actually interested in coming in and investing in the company can be found so these jobs can be saved.

"In the meantime, this is a very difficult time for these workers and I hope they know how much support they have in the community. I will also work closely with federal and state officials to do anything I can to help laid-off employees access resources like unemployment insurance and retraining programs."
