The Bridge Between ~ from Darfur to Portland


Ms. Ekhlas Ahmed will give a talk entitled “The Bridge Between ~ from Darfur to Portland” on Thursday, December 1, 6:00-7:30 pm at the Rockland Public Library. This event is free and open to all.

A refugee and a civil rights activist from Darfur, Sudan, Ms. Ahmed fled with her family to Egypt and lived there for two years before being resettled in Portland, Maine in 2005. She has since graduated high school with honors and earned a degree in sociology with hopes of helping resettle other refugees. She is the vice President and Co-founder of Chance To Advance ,  a an nonprofit organization raising awareness in her community of the violence and needs in Darfur. Additionally, she is writing a book called The Bridge Between, an autobiography in poetic form to share her experiences and raise awareness about Sudan.”
This presentation is hosted by the Rockland Public Library and offered as a free community event in in anticipation of the 30th Annual Camden Conference –Refugees and Global Migration: Humanity’s Crisis, February 17-19, 2017. The 30th Anniversary Camden Conference Community Events Series is supported in part by the Maine Humanities Council.
