“Brain Injury Voices”

“Brain Injury Voices” December 7

The Midcoast Stroke Support Group will host Carole Starr, co-founder of Brain Injury Voices of Portland, at a special presentation at the Camden Public Library on Wednesday, December 7, from noon to 1:00 pm. Brain Injury Voices is an active volunteer group of brain injury survivors in Maine who are “paying it forward” by educating medical professionals and the general public about brain injury from the survivor point of view, advocating for the importance of brain injury rehabilitation, and supporting survivors and families through peer mentoring.

The presentation by Brain Injury Voices will be an interactive “bingo” game format, based on the inspirational writings of Voices’ co-founder Bev Bryant. “On the surface it’s about brain injury, but it goes so much deeper than that,” says Voices’ leader Carole Starr. “Through playing the bingo game, participants will hear many pearls of wisdom about coping with adversity and learning to thrive again when your life has changed dramatically.” It promises to be a fun and inspirational presentation.

“We welcome survivors, family, and friends of stroke survivors, or really anyone faced with a neurological challenge,” said Carol Rohl, one of the Support Group organizers. “Our regular monthly meeting is at 10:00 am on December 7, and everyone is welcome to join us for the meeting before the Brain Injury Voices presentation at noon. We share stories and things we have found helpful in this life change. We are finding that encouragement and contact with others in similar situations is very supportive.” For more information call 273-2090. “We look forward to more people joining us,” she added.
