From E.T.A. Hoffmann's story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky created this seminal holiday classic. One of Tchaikovsky’s most famous compositions, the ballet concerns a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. The score is sure to warm the hearts of everyone as the familiar, iconic melodies from the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to the Russian Dance are played. In this production of the timeless family favorite, The Robinson Ballet brings the professionalism that is associated with a company of dancers that has a 30-plus-year teaching and performing legacy in Maine. The Grand is a Non-Profit performing arts center on Main Street in Ellsworth, Maine. Built in 1938, it is a significant local example of Art Deco architecture, with a prominent marquee and a stepped steel-and-glass tower.
