Eagles Defeat Beavers on the Road, 1-0

FARMINGTON, Maine — Husson University (2-3-2, 1-0-1) defeated University of Maine Farmington (2-5, 0-2) 1-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Leib Field.

Josh Bean lead the Eagles with six shots, while Miguel Caballero tallied five shots, three of which were on goal. Junior goalkeeper Cody Gross made four saves earning the win for the day. For the Beavers Kyle Dugas and Braden Maillet lead UMF with two shots each while goalkeeper Ronie Morales was credited for 11 saves.

The first half saw competitive action between both teams, but remained scoreless. Then in the 75th minute, Rod Ghanayem dished a grounder pass in the box to Cooper Antone, who fired a shot past UMF keeper Morales for the lead. The Eagles lead a solid defense the rest of the way to keep it a 1-0 contest.

"We played very well today, completely dominated from start to finish and got the three points we deserved," said head coach Gavin Penny, "I'm proud of the guys for staying patient and continuing to play our way. After knocking on the door all game, finally one went in. It was a great all around performance."

The Eagles make the quick trip to Brunswick to play Bowdoin College for non-conference action on September 25 at 2:00 p.m. The Beavers host Southern Maine on Wednesday September 28.
