Five Goal First Half Leads Bobcats Past Terriers 6-0

WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College field hockey team was shutout by Bates College, 6-0, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night at Smith Field.

The Terriers drop to 2-5 in their non-conference schedule while the Bobcats improve to 3-2.  Taylor Lough led the Bates offense, tallying two goals and two assists in the victory.

The Bobcats got on the board early and often beginning with a goal in the 7th minute when Jessie Moriarty slammed in a pass from Lough for an early 1-0 lead.  Just three minutes later, Lough corralled a loose ball in front of the cage a to score her first goal of the contest from Adah Lindquist.

Bates continued the scoring in the 15th minute as Caroline O'Reilly put away a loose ball in a scramble in front to increase their lead to 3-0.  Lough scored her second goal of the contest in the 25th on a hard shot from ten yards out.  With four minutes remaining in the half, Lindquist chipped in a goal on a pass from Lough to finish the scoring at 5-0 in the first.

The Bobcats scored an insurance marker in the 51st as Emma Patterson slammed in ball loose in front the Thomas goal to end the game at 6-1.

Senior Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine / Mt. View) was given the loss in goal for the Terriers, turning away five shots.  She was relieved in the 15th minute by junior Jessica Russell (Pembroke, NH / Bishop Brady) who made five saves.  Alyssa Souza earned the win in goal for the Bobcats, making one save.  Adalae Durand played the second half in goal, stopping one shot.  Bates outshot Thomas 21-7 and held an 8-7 advantage in corners.

The Terriers will begin their North Atlantic Conference on Saturday, September 24, when they travel to Husson for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
