Camden Public Library Events September 29 through October 13

Thursday, September 29

Housing forum on “How to Afford a Home in the Midcoast,” co-hosted by New Ventures Maine and Midcoast Habitat for Humanity. A panel of speakers will present affordability problems and solutions, 6:00 pm at the Camden Public Library.


Friday, September 30

Annual Fall Book Sale, Friday-Saturday-Sunday, 9:00 to 5:00, under the tents at the Camden Public Library. All book sales benefit the library.


Saturday, October 1

Harbor Arts and Books Fair, 9:00 to 5:00, at the Camden Amphitheatre and Harbor Park, an admission-free, family-friendly event featuring works in watercolor, oil, acrylics, and pastels, as well as photography, sculpture, and mixed media.

Annual Fall Book Sale, 9:00 to 5:00, under the tents at the Camden Public Library. All book sales benefit the library.

The MWPA (Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance) will offer a “Write-in” to jumpstart your writing, 10:00-1:00 at the Camden Public Library. MWPA is partnering with libraries across the state to offer free writing space and community. Bring your own laptop, pens, paper, water, etc.


Sunday, October 2

“For Love and Money: Aging Parents and Finances” Elders Seminar, 10:00 am at the Camden Public Library, free. Presented by Kadonoff & Associates, LLC, of Belfast.


Tuesday, October 4

“Lucy Stone, An Unapologetic Life” presented by author Sally McMillen, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Stone was an abolitionist and suffragist who became by the 1850s one of the most famous women in America. Part of Discover History Month at the library.


Wednesday, October 5

Midcoast Stroke Support Group meeting, 10:00 am at the Camden Public Library, all are welcome.


 
Thursday, October 6

“Elders Protection: Fighting Scams,” 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, presented by experts from Maine’s Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection and Legal Services for the Elderly. Free, all are welcome.

Camden Library Coffeehouse features Will Brown with Special Guest Cindy Kallet, two of the area’s favorite musicians, 7:00 pm, $10 admission at the door only.


Friday, October 7

First session of Coastal Senior College class, “Maine’s Marine Wilderness: Exploring Maine’s Offshore Fishing Grounds” with instructor Ron Huber, 1:30 pm at the Camden Public Library. Enroll with Coastal Senior College at 596-6906 or 1-800-286-1594.


Tuesday, October 11

Leer y charlar is Read and chat, entirely in Spanish! 1:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, all who are proficient in Spanish are welcome.

Tuesday Book Club meeting at 1:00 at the Camden Public Library; all are welcome, please call Mary at 763-3035 for more information. The book for this session is “Circling the Sun” by Paula McLain.

Reading Group of the Camden Philosophical Society, 4:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. The topic this month is the book “Being and Event” by contemporary French philosopher Alain Badiou.

“Maine’s Wilderness Frontier and the Settling of Houlton” with Hank Lunn, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Part of the Library’s Discover History Month.


Thursday, October 13

“John Smith’s 1637 Map and the Osher Map Library” with Matthew Edny, Osher Professor in the History of Cartography, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Part of the Library’s Discover History Month.
