Thomas College Men's Basketball Releases 2016-17 Schedule

WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas college men's basketball team has announced its 2016 – 2017 schedule for the upcoming season beginning in November.   The 25-game schedule prepared by third-year head coach Geoff Hensley will feature challenging non-conference opponents to prepare for North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contenders.
Coach Hensley feels his squad is prepared to take on the new season with a tough schedule ahead.  "Our non-conference schedule is very difficult as we play some very tough teams in Colby, UNE, Wheelock and two teams from New York City: Lehman University and Stevens Tech.  We are hoping the challenges we face in the non-conference will do more than prepare us for another year in the North Atlantic Conference."
The Terriers finished 14-13 overall in the 2015 – 2016 season while staying at a solid .500 with 9-9 record in NAC play.  Thomas made a postseason push in the tournament, knocking off Castleton at home in the NAC Quarterfinals 83-65.  The Terriers moved onto the NAC Semifinals where they were defeated at Husson 91-76, ending a promising tournament run.
Thomas lost four key seniors to graduation in May, as Coach Hensley will call upon key returning players and incoming first-year players to make an early impact.  The biggest loss is the graduation of Levi Barnes, who amassed 1,859 career points in his four-year career at Thomas, ranking number two overall in the history of the college.
"We have an outstanding group of new freshmen who are all hard-working and great young men.  Combine that with some of our key returning players in seniors Ian King and Tyheem Simon, plus juniors Carlos Gonzalez and Sam Smith, we are very optimistic for another big year for Thomas Basketball."  Simon will be called upon to lead the Terrier offense after posting 15.4 points per game last season while shooting 61.4% from the field.  Gonzalez will control the floor under the basket as he averaged a double-double last year as a sophomore.
The Terriers will begin their season regular season on November 15 as they host Nichols in a 7:30 p.m. contest in Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.  Thomas will also host the Charlie Ryan Classic November 18 and 19 with opponents Wheelock and the University of New England.
