WATERVILLE, ME --- The Thomas College women's soccer team was shutout
by Castleton University, 4-0, on Sunday in a North Atlantic Conference
(NAC) matchup at Smith Field.
The loss drops the Terriers to 6-6 (3-2 NAC) on the season while the Spartans improve to 8-6 (6-0 NAC) in the victory.
The Spartans opened the scoring at the 16th minute when Eva Clark beat Terrier keeper Paige Leary
on a penalty kick to give her team a 1-0 lead. At the 35th minute
Leary slid to gather a loose ball, deflecting the ball to the foot of
Clark who scored into an empty net to add her second goal of the game.
At the half the Spartans lead 2-0 with a 14-4 advantage in shots over the Terriers.
Less the five minutes into the second half, Clark completed the hat
trick on a pass from Bronwen Hopwood. Just six minutes later, Shelby
McLenithan beat Leary on the right side just inside the post to push the
Spartan lead to 4-0.
Leary was given the loss in her 14 save performance while Jessica
Binkowski made four saves in the win before being relieved by Kasie
Wilk. The Spartans held a 29-6 shot advantage over the Terriers for the
contest.
The Terriers will return to the pitch on Thursday, October 15, when
they travel to the University of Maine at Farmington for a 3:15 P.M.
North Atlantic Conference contest.
