Portland, Maine- The Eastern League has named Portland Sea Dogs' Executive Vice President and General Manager Geoff Iacuessa the 2015 Eastern League Executive of the Year. Iacuessa will be presented with the award at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee during the Opening Session on Monday, December 7th.
The Eastern League also recognized the entire Portland Sea Dogs staff with this award for their outstanding performance this season
"Geoff's selection for this award is well deserved recognition for the outstanding job he has done not only this season, but during his entire tenure with the Sea Dogs," said Eastern League President Joe McEacharn. "The outstanding efforts of Geoff and the rest of the Portland staff were on full display with their excellent job in planning and hosting the Eastern League All-Star Classic. Geoff is also universally praised by managers and umpires throughout the league for his hard work and strong communication."
The 2015 season marked Iacuessa's fifth as Executive Vice President & General Manager. Under his leadership the Sea Dogs ranked third in the Eastern League in attendance in 2015, welcoming a total of 368,291 fans to Hadlock Field, an increase of nearly 10,000 fans from 2014. The team also recorded 13 sell outs during the season. These totals do not include the sold out crowd that attended the Sullivan Tire All-Star Classic at Hadlock Field in July. The 7,368 fans in attendance for the event saw history made when the Eastern Division topped the Western Division in a Home Run Derby Shootout after the game ended in a 4-4 tie at the end of the ninth inning. Iacuessa has helped oversee a number of improvements for fans at Hadlock Field in his role at Executive Vice President and General Manager, including the installation of a POW/ MIA "Chair of Honor" and a brand new state of the art video board prior to the start of the 2014 season.
"This recognition is truly an organization award and is the direct result of our dedicated and hard-working front-office and game-day staff," stated Iacuessa. "We have a tremendous team that works tirelessly to make Hadlock Field a great experience for our devoted fans. Additionally, the support from the Burke family makes everything we accomplish possible. It is a great and humbling honor to receive this on behalf of the Portland Sea Dogs."
Iacuessa, a 2001 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, will be entering his 16th season with the Sea Dogs. He began his career with the team as an intern in 2001 and was hired full-time as the teams' Director of Group Sales in 2002. In 2004 Geoff became the Director of Sales and Promotions. At the end of the 2006 season, he was promoted to Assistant General Manager and was named to his current position in the fall of 2010.
In 2011 Iacuessa was named to the Portland Press Herald's "40 under 40" list, recognizing 40 local business leaders under the age of 40. In addition to his work with the Sea Dogs, Iacuessa serves on the PeoplesChoice Credit Union Board of Directors, the Maine Children's Cancer Program Board of Directors, and the Portland Community Chamber's Economic Development & City Affairs Committee. Originally from Greenfield, Massachusetts, Iacuessa lives in South Portland with his wife Kristie and son Hudson.
The 2016 Sea Dogs' home opener is scheduled for Thursday, April 14th at 6:00 PM against the Hartford Yard Goats. Tickets for all 2016 games will go on sale on Saturday, November 7th at 9:00 AM at Hadlock Field.
