Gardens in the Watershed Tour on July 12 – with a sneak peek!

The eagerly awaited 24th annual Georges River Land Trust Gardens in the Watershed tour will take place on Sunday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. rain or shine, in the western lower reaches of the Georges River watershed. This year’s tour promises to be one of our best yet – featuring five country gardens in Warren, South Thomaston, and Cushing that will delight your senses. The tour also features an exclusive sneak peek of the future Langlais Sculpture Preserve in Cushing!

Along with the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of the area and the individual homeowners’ horticultural creativity, gardening experts will speak at two of the gardens offering helpful information for your own garden. Peter Kukielski, former curator of the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden at the NY Botanical Garden, Kukielski will speak about disease resistance in roses at 11 a.m. Rebecca Jacobs of the Knox-Lincoln water Conservation District will speak at 2 p.m. on invasive plants.

Make this a full day by pre-ordering a delicious lunch catered by Home Kitchen Café.  Be sure to get raffle tickets for the 15 raffle items ranging from a dwarf conifer, garden center gift certificates, dahlia bulbs, Ikebana flower vase, artwork and more!

Advance tickets and brochures are available for $25 from local merchants: Brambles in Belfast, Planet Toys in Camden, The Grasshopper Shop and The Good Tern Co-Op in Rockland, Green Thumb and Plants Unlimited in Rockport, Hedgerow in Tenants Harbor, Highlands Coffee House in Thomaston, Union Agway, the Land Trust office. Tour tickets, raffle tickets and lunch pre-orders can be purchased online at http://www.georgesriver.org/garden. Tickets are also available for $28 on tour day at any of the garden sites.

The Land Trust is grateful to The First, N.A. And The First Advisors for being the major sponsors and to Maine Home + Design magazine for being the media sponsor for this event. They are joined by generous support of more than 50 local businesses and individuals who help make this event a success by being sponsors and friends of the tour. Many thanks go to the hard working garden owners for preparing and opening their gardens to us, and to the numerous volunteers who assist in the gardens on tour day and all year.
