Gardens in the Watershed Tour on July 12 – with a sneak peek!

The eagerly awaited 24th annual Georges River Land Trust Gardens in the Watershed tour will take place on Sunday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. rain or shine, in the western lower reaches of the Georges River watershed. This year’s tour promises to be one of our best yet – featuring five country gardens in Warren, South Thomaston, and Cushing that will delight your senses. The tour also features an exclusive sneak peek of the future Langlais Sculpture Preserve in Cushing!


Along with the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of the area and the individual homeowners’ horticultural creativity, gardening experts will speak at two of the gardens offering helpful information for your own garden. Peter Kukielski, former curator of the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden at the NY Botanical Garden, Kukielski will speak about disease resistance in roses at 11 a.m. Rebecca Jacobs of the Knox-Lincoln water Conservation District will speak at 2 p.m. on invasive plants.

Gardens in the Watershed Tour on July 13th

The eagerly awaited annual Georges River Land Trust Gardens in the Watershed tour will take place on Sunday, July 13th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and travel through rolling hills and farmland dotted with lakes, ponds and the St. George River. Seven country gardens in the middle watershed towns of Appleton, Rockport, Union and Warren will be available for you to visit, rain or shine. This year’s gardens offer an array of mixed perennial borders, vegetable gardens, ornamental plantings, herb beds, chickens, garden art and more…

Along with the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of the area and the individual homeowners’ horticultural creativity, gardening experts will speak at two of the gardens offering helpful information for your own garden. Bob Emmons, former professor of plant science at the State University of New York, Cobbleskill, who specialized in entomology, plant pathology and integrated pest management, will speak about Japanese Beetles at 11 a.m. Sharon Turner, Master Gardener, consultant, educator and garden designer will speak at 2 p.m. on gardening for birds.

Gardens in the Watershed Tour on July 14th

Mid-Coast - The eagerly awaited 22nd annual Gardens in the Watershed Tour will take place on Sunday, July 14th, from 10 am to 5 pm, rain or shine. The tour, now featured as a must-see event by the New York Times, is hosted by the Georges River Land Trust.

This year’s tour will feature seven gardens from Montville, Union, and Hope. Besides the gardens, one of the highlights of tour day is the drive following the Georges River as it meanders through the watershed with magnificent vistas of rolling hills, farms, fields of wildflowers, ponds and lakes. Come visit the headwaters of the St. George River!

This year’s gardens were chosen not only for their beauty and diversity, but also as stellar examples of garden owners who believe in living sustainably from the earth - enjoying the bounty of vegetable plants, fruit trees, farmyard animals, and creative perennial displays of bright blooms. There will be two speakers – one talk will be about an organic approach to gardening, and the other about composting.

Home Kitchen Café will again be catering the lunch. There will be 15 raffle items to choose from ranging from a dwarf conifer, garden baskets, dahlia bulbs, hand blown bud vases, artwork and more that will be on display at the lunch site in case you want to buy another raffle ticket during the tour.
