Rockland, Maine - Dr Bea Szantyr will present a program at the Rockland Public c Library about Lyme disease and how to keep yourself and family safe while enjoying the outdoors on Thursday, May 7 at 6:00 PM. Dr. Szantyr’s interest in Lyme and related tick- borne disorders began near two decades ago, and now consists of thousands of hours of continuing education and investigation. Included will be updated information from the Maine CDC, as well as information on other tick-borne diseases that occur in Maine. This program is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of the Rockland Public Library. The Rockland Public Library is located at 80 Union St. For more information, call 594-0310.
Dr. Szantyr, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and member of the American College of Physicians, is board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics. She did her undergraduate studies at Fordham University, received her doctorate in medicine from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and completed her internship and residency at St. Louis University Hospitals and Cardinal Glennon Memorial Hospital for Children. Dr. Szantyr came to Maine 27 years ago serving a commitment to the National Health Service Corps. She has lectured throughout New England to community and professional groups. Dr. Szantyr is a member of Maine’s Vector Borne Disease Workgroup, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society, medical advisor for MaineLyme, a non-profit dedicated to awareness and prevention through education and advocacy, and on the board of directors for the Lyme Digital Library. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Community Health and Counseling Services, and in other volunteer capacities in the community and in public health.
