Augusta, Maine - On Saturday, May 9th at 10:00 AM at the Augusta Civic Center, the University of Maine at Augusta will hold its 47th Commencement Exercises.
Graduates from UMA’s Augusta and Bangor campuses, online programs, and University College Centers, will walk across the stage to receive associate and baccalaureate degrees from UMA during the event.
UMA is honored to host Maine Senator Susan Collins as this year’s commencement speaker. Senator Collins is currently serving her fourth term in the United States Senate. For her life’s accomplishments and for her tireless efforts on behalf of the people of Maine, the University of Maine at Augusta will award Senator Collins a Doctorate in Humane Letters during the ceremony.
In addition, Mary Elisabeth Randall will receive the Distinguished Service to UMA Award for devoting her life and career to UMA through employment, leadership and scholarship. Bobbi Gottschalk, co-founder and executive director of Seeds of Peace will receive the Distinguished Achievement Award, U.S. Marshall, Noel March will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, and UMA Professor Jon Schlenker will be named Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Anthropology.
Graduating that day with a BS in Computer Information Systems, Nathaniel LaClaire will receive the Distinguished Student Award. In addition to being recognized by his professors for his outstanding scholarship in the classroom, LaClaire also configured and administered several servers at UMA, and still found time to teach computer literacy skills to high school age students, and play the piano at his local church.
