Multi-media Historical Presentation about Turn-Of-The-Century Northern Maine on May 14

Rockland, Maine - The Maine Frontier: Through the Lens of Isaac Walton Simpson, a film and live presentation illustrating the family, work, community, and culture in northern Maine at the turn-of-the-century, will take place on Thursday, May 14 at 7pm at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main Street in Rockland.

Presented by filmmaker and composer Sumner McKane, the multimedia presentation combines the rare and historic photography of Isaac Simpson with archived films, oral histories, and live music by Sumner McKane and Joshua Robbins. The Maine Frontier is centered around a collection of over 1,500 scarcely seen photographs taken around the turn-of-the-century by Amity, Maine native Isaac Simpson -- a photographer, blacksmith, barber, musician, woodsman, mechanic, husband, and father of 13 children. Isaac Simpson’s photographic subjects -- his wife Effie, their friends, family, neighbors and work-mates -- exemplify the character, necessities, and condition of the turn-of-the-century northern Mainer. Attendees will hear how this collection of photos was almost lost forever, and experience a previously undocumented historical story through a vivid multidimensional presentation.

Tickets $12.50/General Admission at the door. For more information about this event and all upcoming live concerts, films, HD broadcasts, and events at the Strand, visit www.rocklandstrand.com. Tel: (207) 594-0070 EX 3  Email: info@rocklandstrand.com
