Owls Head Transportation Museum to offer free activities during school vacation

April Vacation Week is Kite Week at the Museum
Owls Head, Maine - Beginning Monday, April 21, students will have multiple opportunities to enjoy kite building workshops at the museum during school vacation week.

Kite Week has been a favorite for years. Two kite building sessions will be held each day during the week of school break, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m. A variety of skill levels and ages are accommodated throughout the week, as a different project is offered each day.

Seating and materials are limited, and advance registration is encouraged. Younger children wishing to participate in kite building activities should be accompanied by an adult. Admission for visitors who would like to view the Museum is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and free to persons under 18.

Thanks to the generous support of E. L. Spear, Inc. of Rockland, all kite building activities are offered free of charge.

The kite building workshop schedule is as follows:
Monday, April 21
Butterfly Kite: If you can use scissors you can build this simple kite; construction and decorating take approximately 30 minutes.
Tuesday, April 22
Diamond Kite: Includes several knots and lots of string for the frame of
the kite.  Takes 60+ minutes.  Traditional diamond shaped kite, like Charlie Brown's, only ours actually fly.

Wednesday, April 23
Sled Kite: This 30- to 45-minute project is fairly simple and requires very little knot tying.
Thursday, April 24
Delta Kite: Almost no knot tying, takes a bit of puzzle solving skill.  Takes 60 minutes.  The easiest kite to fly for a first timer.

Friday, April 25
Box Kite: A great introduction to constructing more complex kites, the Box Kite requires 60 to 90 minutes to complete. We recommend this workshop for children eight and up.
