Pirates (16-19-2-7, 41 points) at Senators (29-14-0-3, 63 Points), 7:05 PM EST
Binghamton, NY – The Portland Pirates look to snap a three game losing streak as they start a 4 game road trip tonight in Binghamton against the Senators. Puck drops at 7 PM from the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena as the Pirates look to avenge their loss to the B-Sens from last Saturday.
The weekend was not kind to the Pirates, who were defeated in three straight games at home, and allowed 7 goals in each game. Their last game was Sunday against Manchester, a 7-4 loss in the 7th game of the VIP Cup series, presented by VIP Tires & Service. The Pirates jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but allowed 6 unanswered goals in the loss. Andy Miele had a three point night as he continued to ascend the record books, moving into 12th place all time in career points. With the win, the Monarchs took a 5-2 VIP Cup Series lead with 5 remaining games this season. For more information on the VIP Cup, visit www.vip-cup.com.
Binghamton’s last game was Saturday’s game in Lewiston, a very testy affair that saw the Senators defeat the Pirates 7-1. The two teams combined for 220 penalty minutes and the Pirates broke a 17th year old franchise record for penalty minutes in a game with 134. The game was so contentious that the Pirates only had 11 eligible skaters by the time the game ended due to penalties and ejections. CCM/AHL Player of the Week Mike Hoffman had two points on the night for the Senators, while the Pirates’ lone goal came from Brandon Yip in the first period.
KeyBank Key to the Game
Focus on the Future: Despite the bad blood between the two teams from Saturday night, the Pirates cannot focus on the past. Portland will need to focus on executing their game plan rather than seeking vengeance for Saturday in order to be successful tonight.
