Inaugural Maine Acoustic Festival presents 31 Maine Music Students in Showcase Performance

Portland, Maine - Thirty-one music students from throughout Maine will perform in a student showcase at the inaugural Maine Acoustic Festival on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Hannaford Hall on the campus of the University of Southern Maine in Portland. The performance takes place at 4 pm and is open to the public. Tickets are $10 and available at the door or online at www.BrownPaperTickets.com

The talented middle school and high school students were selected by audition to participate in an intensive three-day festival of workshops, rehearsals, and performances. The students have distinguished themselves in the traditional acoustic music styles of bluegrass, old-time American, Franco-Acadian, and Irish with an additional category for singer/songwriters. The Festival is produced by 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth and North Yarmouth Academy in collaboration with Portland Ovations.

Festival participants will meet in Yarmouth from April 4 – 6 to work in ensembles led by instructors Matt Shipman (bluegrass), Mike Block (bluegrass), Christian “Junior” Stevens (Irish), Lauren Rioux (old time), Don Roy (Franco-Acadian), and Joyce Andersen (singer/songwriter).

 In addition, the students will attend workshops given by three nationally prominent special guest artists: Tony Trischka, Darol Anger, and Michael Daves.
