Rockport, Maine - Ashwood Summer Camp is a day camp for children from age 3½ to those entering seventh grade. This year, in response to parent requests, Ashwood will be offering more weeks of camp, both full- and half-day sessions, and an early drop-off option. Also, new this year is a five-day session of Ultimate Frisbee Camp for children entering fourth to seventh grades.
Ashwood’s camp programs feature wholesome, age-appropriate activities on our 32-acre campus of open meadows, playgrounds, herb gardens, tree swings, woodland trails and babbling brooks. Daily activities include tumbling, music, games, nature crafts, gardening, storytelling, shelter building, water play, nature walks and many special events.
We offer a choice of half- and full-day sessions and an early drop-off option. Families that sign up for more than one week will receive a discount on each additional week of camp.
Waldorf in the Woods is for children from age 3 ½ through 6. There are four 5-day sessions from July 8 through August 2. Tumble & Rumble is for children entering grades 1 through 4. There are two five-day sessions from July 22 through August 2. For Waldorf in the Woods and Tumble & Rumble, full- and half-day options are available and multi-week discounts apply. Waldorf in the Woods and Tumble & Rumble take place at Ashwood Waldorf School, 180 Park Street, Rockport.
This year, for the first time, Ashwood will offer Ultimate Frisbee Camp for boys and girls entering grades 4 through 7. There is one five-day session from August 5 through 9. This camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Ultimate Frisbee Camp will take place at the Marge Jones Recreational Center on Route 90 in Rockport.
Ashwood Summer Camp instructors are certified Waldorf teachers with many years of experience. Toki Oshima has a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Sunbridge College and a degree in art. Toki is also a master musician. A long-time teacher at Ashwood, Toki now teaches at Morning Glory Garden, a Waldorf-inspired preschool in Belfast. Marianne Bockli received her Early Childhood teaching certificate in Switzerland and did her Waldorf training in New England. She started French programs in several Maine schools and taught at Ashwood for 15 years. Marianne now serves as a mentor to several Waldorf initiatives in China. Jeremy Clough is trained in Spacial Dynamics®. He received his Waldorf teacher certification from Antioch College and has been a class teacher at Ashwood for eight years. Jeremy is also the school’s lead physical education teacher and offers Ultimate Frisbee Club each spring to area school children.
