Portland Ovations Presents Banjo Master Tony Trischka at Hannaford Hall

Portland, Maine - Portland Ovations in collaboration with 317 Main Street and North Yarmouth Academy
presents Grammy nominated banjo master Tony Trischka and an all-star band at Hannaford Hall, USM Portland Campus for a concert Saturday, April 6 at 8 PM.

Tony Trischska who The New York Times calls, "...the godfather of what is sometimes called new acoustic music." Is joined by a band that includes Darol Anger, Michael Daves, and Jared Engel for this multimedia concert version of filmmaker Marc Fields' "Give Me the Banjo," which chronicles the journey of America's quintessential instrument from its African roots to the 21st century. Trischka is undoubtedly the most influential banjo player in the roots music world. For more than 35 years, his stylings have inspired a whole generation of bluegrass and acoustic musicians. He is not only considered among the very best pickers, he is also one of the instrument's top teachers, responsible for teaching some of the biggest names in bluegrass how to play. The performance will also feature students from the first annual Maine Acoustic Festival, at which Tony Trischka and his band will be featured guest clinicians.

Thirty-one talented middle and high school music students from throughout Maine who have distinguished themselves in the traditional acoustic music styles of bluegrass, old-time American, Franco-Acadian, and Irish with an additional category for singer/songwriters were selected by audition to participate in an intensive three-day festival of workshops, rehearsals, and performances which will culminate with a student showcase at the inaugural Maine Acoustic Festival on Saturday, April 6 at 4 pm over at Hannaford Hall, USM Portland prior to the Tony Trischka concert. The Festival is produced by 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth and North Yarmouth Academy in collaboration with Portland Ovations.
