Augusta, Maine - A dramatic reading of key scenes from The Submission will kick off a month-long series of events celebrating Lithgow Public Library’s annual community-wide reading project, A Capital Read. The performance will be held Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. at the Holocaust and Human Rights Center at the University of Maine at Augusta.
This year’s A Capital Read selection is Amy Waldman’s acclaimed debut novel The Submission, which explores the controversy and complex emotions surrounding a memorial for the victims of 9/11.
The dramatic performance is directed by UMA theater professor David Greenham and features professional and non-professional actors. The event is free and open to the public. The play was first commissioned, produced and developed by Book-It Repertory Theatre of Seattle, and is performed through arrangement with Amy Waldman.
A Capital Read 2013 is generously underwritten by the Friends of Lithgow Library and is presented in partnership with the University of Maine at Augusta.
Waldman’s appearance on Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at the University of Maine at Augusta will be the highlight of A Capital Read 2013. Other programs in April will include a community art exhibit, an evening of poetry and music, book discussions, and an appearance by author/human rights advocate Reza Jalali.
