Governor LePage Visits Maine Lobsterman's Association Annual Meeting

Maine Lobstermen’s Association Annual Meeting
The Maine Lobstermen’s Association was founded in 1954 and is currently the oldest and largest fishing industry association on the east coast. Representing 1,200 members, the MLA works to sustain both the industry and the resource. The MLA strives to be proactive on issues affecting the lobster industry and is active in the management process at the state, regional and federal levels. The MLA communicates with its members through a monthly newsletter, email list and attendance at hundreds of meetings around the state and the region each year. For more than 50 years, the MLA has provided a credible voice for the industry on important issues, and is highly regarded by both the fishing industry and the management community.

The agenda featured a presentation from the Gulf of Maine Research Institute on the study
documenting the profitability of the lobster industry. MLA  provided a brief update on
pending legislation, proposed changes to the whale rules and an opportunity for questions
and answers with MLA's board, staff and legal team.
Governor Paul LaPage made an appearance to show his support and answered some questions from the audience.
