EMHS Builds Bridges for Area Students by Spotlighting Healthcare Careers

Brewer, Maine - On Tuesday, March 5, EMHS (Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems) will invite nearly 30 area high school educators and guidance counselors to the Cianchette Building in Brewer to showcase the many careers offered in the healthcare industry today. The day is part of an ongoing series by the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce called Building Bridges, which is a professional development course offering educators a behind-the-scenes look into growing industries.

The need for engaged, highly skilled healthcare professionals is at an all-time high. As the baby boomer generation ages, there is an increased demand for healthcare services, resulting in a growing need for healthcare workers. The types of healthcare jobs are also expanding due to changes in how healthcare is delivered and technical advancements. Phil Johnson, EMHS vice president of Human Resources commented, “Healthcare careers are more than just what the patient sees on the clinical front lines. There is a growing need for talented employees focused on information technology, health information management, business administration, accounting and many other specialties, and we are proud to showcase the many opportunities offered here at EMHS.”

EMHS’ Building Bridges presentation will begin at 3 pm. During their time at EMHS, educators and guidance counselors will tour the facility and engage in dynamic discussions. Topics will surround the skills needed by job seekers to be successful and the many careers offered by today’s healthcare industry.
