Ronald Lantz and Laura Kargul duet at the Farnsworth

Bay Chamber presents Ronald Lantz and Laura Kargul duet at the Farnsworth Library on January 9 in partnership with USM School of Music


In collaboration with the Farnsworth Art Museum and University of Southern Maine School of Music, Bay Chamber Concerts is presenting a popular new series of concerts this winter.  These diverse, fifty-minute performances are the perfect way to spend lunch hour!  Surrounded by art and music, enjoy a simple, tasty lunch in the Farnsworth Art Museum’s Library and prepare to be transported far from the stresses and strains of the workday.  Tickets are only $25; $20 for Farnsworth members.  Tickets include lunch as well as free entrance to the Farnsworth Art Museum following the show.

On Wednesday, January 9, violinist Ronald Lantz and pianist Laura Kargul will perform a program of romantic music featuring the Sonata for Violin and Piano by Jacques de la Presle.  This gorgeous masterpiece from 1913 exemplifies the full flowering of the French romantic tradition.

A founding member of the Portland String Quartet, Ronald Lantz has performed in 33 countries, throughout Europe, South America, the Caribbean, Japan and Russia, touring both privately and as a musical ambassador for the US State Department. He has appeared in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and Suntory Hall (Tokyo).  He has served on the music faculties of many prestigious music colleges including the University of Southern Maine.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Laura Kargul’s European debut in the Netherlands was hailed by the Rotterdams Nieuwsblad as “one of the most remarkable debut recitals recently given in our country.” The following year she played at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and earned immediate recognition as “a world class pianist: This is playing that belongs on our great concert stages.... almost feverishly inspired, so controlled and so thrilling.” Haagsche Courant, The Hague.  Ms. Kargul lives in Freeport, and is a full professor at the University of Southern Maine School of Music.

Ronald Lantz and Laura Kargul established their duo collaboration in 2010.
