Hope and Healing Has a New Home

EMMC Opens Raish Peavey Haskell Children’s Cancer and Treatment Center

Bangor, Maine - Local children with cancer and blood disorders have a new place to receive their life-saving care as Eastern Maine Medical Center opens the doors of the Raish Peavey Haskell Children’s Cancer and Treatment Center on Friday, December 14. An open house will be held from 1 to 6 pm at the facility, which is located on the third floor of EMMC CancerCare, in the Lafayette Family Cancer Center on Whiting Hill Road in Brewer.

Cancer patient Elizabeth Bailey, 20, of Old Town will be the featured speaker at the dedication ceremony at 1:15 pm. Elizabeth, a student at UMaine, was diagnosed with leukemia at age 11. She has received her
treatment and follow-up care at EMMC.

The Raish Peavey Haskell Children’s Cancer and Treatment Center is one of just two pediatric oncology centers in Maine, serving children and young adults from central, eastern, and northern Maine. The center was designed with input from patients and their families, and brings all of EMMC’s outpatient pediatric oncology and hematology services under one roof.

Individuals and businesses throughout the community have come together to support the creation of the center, raising more than $3 million through EMMC’s Heroes, Hope, and Healing campaign.
