Governor Orders Flags to be Lowered in Respect for Victims in CT Shooting

Augusta, Maine - Governor Paul R. LePage ordered the flags of the United States and State of Maine be flown at half-staff effective immediately through sunset on Tuesday, December 18th, 2012 in accordance with a Presidential proclamation.

After learning of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut earlier today, Governor LePage released the following statement:

 “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and community affected by this horrific event this morning in Connecticut. It is difficult to comprehend the loss of so many innocent lives.

 Ann and I will continue to pray for the families of the children and staff members who lost their lives in what should be the safest of places, their school.”

On Friday, President Obama issued a proclamation as a mark of respect for the victims of tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut.
