Union Rt. 17 Accident Claims A Life


Union, Maine - According to Knox County Sheriff's Office, Just before 5 p.m. today, Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a two vehicle crash on Heald Highway (Rt. 17) in Union at the intersection of Town House Rd.

The Deputies arrived and found that a 1968 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, driven by Ronald Moon, 64, of Waldoboro had struck the back of a 2016 Audi SUV, driven by Chaturvedi Alok, 57 of New Delhi, as it was pulling onto Heald Highway from Town House Road.

The passenger on the back of the motorcycle, Felicity Davidson, 63, of Rockport was not wearing a helmet and was ejected from the motorcycle. Ms. Davidson was pronounced dead at the scene. Moon suffered broken bones and was transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center. There were no injuries sustained to people in the Audi.

Apparently, Alok pulled out onto Heald Highway not seeing the motorcycle as it crested the hill travelling eastbound. Neither speed nor any impairment is believed to be contributing factors. The investigation will continue by Deputy Daniel Landers.

This is the 6th fatality on Knox County roads since May 1st. Please stay alert, avoid distractions, wear your seatbelts and watch your speed.

  1. We need a traffic light on that corner, especially with Dollar General coming in and increased traffic. Do it now before more people lose their lives. Please.

  2. I agree. This corner needs a traffic light desperately. We wait for an good opening and then floor the pedal to get across 17. People are coming down the hill traveling west, at a fast pace. People are coming up the hill and the visibility is not great. Hold your breath, look both ways, and make run for it.
