BREAKING NEWS: Union Ambulance, Fire Department, Sheriff's Office On Scene Of RT. 17 Head-On Crash

UPDATE 10:25pm: According to Knox County Sheriff's office, Just before 5 p.m. today, Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a two vehicle head-on crash on Rt. 17 in Union just east of Shepard Hill Rd.  

The Deputies arrived and found that a 2011 Ford Sedan, operated by Sherry Cloutier, 52, of Augusta had been operating westbound on Rt. 17 and for some unknown reason crossed the centerline and struck a 2002 Saab sedan operated by Angela Knight-Boege, 49, of Warren travelling eastbound head-on. Both operators were pronounced dead at the scene.  There were no other passengers in either vehicle.   Rt.17 was shut down to traffic for nearly 3 hours before crews were able to clear the road.  

Assistance was provided by Knox County Regional Communications Center, Union Fire and Ambulance Dept., Northeast Ambulance, and Washington Fire Dept. 

UPDATE 7:19pm: Fire units have cleared the double fatal head-on crash scene.
UPDATE 5:27pm: The area closed of Rt. 17 is between North Union Rd and Shepherd Hill Rd.
UPDATE 5:14pm: Rt. 17 has been shutdown. No word on the people involved in the crash.
UPDATE 5:10pm: Washington Fire Department has been requested for traffic control.
UPDATE 5:05pm: Life flight has been cancelled.
BREAKING NEWS: Union, Maine -  Union Ambulance, Fire Department, Knox County Sheriffs Office on scene of a head-on crash with heavy damage to both on Rt. 17 in Union, Maine.

Crash occurred in the area of 2774 Heald Highway.

Northeast Ambulance has been requested along with life flight.
