Peaceful Protest Planned For Camden November 19th, 2016

Camden, Maine - There will be a peaceful protest on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at 40 Washington Street, starting where the farmers market is held begin around 11am in Camden, Maine.

This protest is organized by Hannah Holte, Yanmei McElhaney, Emily Quinn, and Maddie Bowman.

Hannah says; Many people have approached us in outrage because they mistakenly believe our protest is an "anti-Trump" protest. This is far from the truth. Our peaceable assembly has transformed into more of a walk of solidarity to the minorities Trump has threatened in his campaign and promised to suppress with his presidency. This peaceful protest of ours was aptly named "Stand Up, Speak Out" by Yanmei to denote how many of us are not going to stand by while hate crimes are on the rise throughout the US ever since Trump became president. Troubling stories of minorities being told to "go back to where you came from" and Muslim women's hijabs being ripped off their heads have been headlines lately. We are assembling this protest to show the Midcoast community that we stand with the rights of minorities, women, the LGBTQ+ community, and other groups of people that Trump has threatened with his campaign. We are very proud of our efforts, and as of right now, 102 people have committed to coming!

The peaceful protest will begin in the public parking lot of 40 Washington St and march to downtown Camden
