Maine Field Hockey Wins in Overtime Thriller 4-3 to Open America East Conference Play

LOWELL, Mass. -- The University of Maine Field Hockey team won in a overtime thriller 4-3, to open America East conference play.

With the win, Maine improves to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference on the season while UMass Lowell drops to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Emma Cochran (Surrey, British Columbia) got the win to improve her record to 5-1 on the season.
UMass Lowell opened the game two minutes in off of a Christa Doiron goal to give the River Hawks a 1-0 advantage.

Casey Crowley (New Plymouth, New Zealand) was able to tie the game with a rebound off of a blocked shot and lifted the ball into the cage to bring the score 1-1.

Five minutes later, Jenna Freitas scored off of a deflection into the cage and gave the River Hawks a 2-1 lead.

UMass Lowell was able to score one more before the end of the half, the River Hawks had a 3-1 lead heading into half-time.

Emily Corbett (Listowell, Ontario) had two saves in the first half.

Emma Cochran started the second half in goal for the Black Bears. Casey Crowley was able to score her second of goal of the game to bring Maine closer 3-2.

Six minutes later Katie Bingle (Selby, England) beat the goalie on her left side to tie the game at three and send the game into overtime.

Maine outshot UMass Lowell 6-5 in the second half.

Emma Cochran started for the Black Bears in overtime and saved three critical shots.

Danielle Aviani (Surrey, British Columbia) had a break away opportunity and was able to shoot the ball over the goalie to give Maine the win.

Maine was able to outshoot UMass Lowell 19-18 in the game.

The Black Bears return to action October 9 against Albany at the University of Maine Field Hockey Complex at 3:00 p.m.
