Camden Public Library Events August 13 through August 27

Thursday, August 13

“Hunger in Knox County” presented jointly by Area Interfaith Outreach (AIO) and the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry, 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. The program will include a showing of the powerful documentary “A Place at the Table.” Representatives of the sponsoring food pantries will discuss the rising local need for food, invite discussion of what is being done, and elicit ideas of how to stem this tide.

Maine State Archivist Dave Cheever presents “Revenge, Redoubt, and Receipts,” three Maine men’s struggles to achieve their goals in the Civil War on the front line, behind the lines, and at home, based on the true stories of Rockland’s sharpshooters and Camden’s industry in support of the Civil War. 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, part of the Maine and the Civil War series of lectures and events.


Friday, August 14

Free Walking Tours every Friday at 4:00 pm, hosted by the Camden Public Library and the Camden Downtown Business Group. Reservations are encouraged; please call the library at 236-3440.


Saturday, August 15

Monday, August 17

Movie “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein” (1948,  B&W,  83 min) 8:00 pm, final movie in the free outdoor series in the Camden Amphitheatre for Monday Night Movies in the Park, sponsored by the Camden Public Library and Allen Insurance & Financial. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating.


Tuesday, August 18

“Profound Wonder: The Marriage of Abraham and Mary Lincoln,” by Dr. Erin Bishop, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, part of the Maine and the Civil War series of lectures and events.


Thursday, August 20

The Gawler Family in a free concert in the Amphitheatre, 7:00 pm, co-sponsored by the Camden Public Library and Allen Insurance & Financial. Bring blankets or chairs for seating. In case of rain, the concert will be indoors in the Camden Public Library.

Saturday, August 22

The re-enactors of Company B, 20th Maine Volunteers, will be camping in Harbor Park beginning Friday evening. They will host a day-long program of mini-lectures, displays, military drill, and firing drill on Saturday, sponsored by the Camden Public Library’s series of events commemorating the Civil War.

Tenth Annual Children’s Book-Fair-By-The-Sea, 1:00 to 4:00 at the Camden Public Library, featuring eight Maine authors and illustrators. Celebrate the many joys of children’s books and the people who bring them to life!


Sunday, August 23

Join Quantum for an afternoon of electronic soundscapes, 1:00 pm in the Camden Amphitheatre. Quantum is Jason Dean and Mike Whitehead, playing keyboards and drum machines with live vocals, all woven together in an electronic web of sound.



Tuesday, August 25

Actor Stephen Collins presents “A Search for Justice,” in a free performance, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, as part of the library’s Civil War series. The one-person play is about the concepts of justice which drove the participants in the war.


Wednesday, August 26

Author Sarah Moore brings her World War II tale, “Flying Colors” to the Camden Public Library at 2:00 pm, the story of veteran Victor “Vic” Tatelman, now 94 years old.



Thursday, August 27

Camden Garden Club hosts Lee Schneller, author of “The Ever Blooming Flower Garden: a blueprint for continuous color,” 9:30 am at the Camden Public Library.

Claudia Schmidt and Sally Rogers in Concert in the Reading Room at the Camden Public Library, 7:00 pm. Tickets are $12 and will be available at the library only.
