On Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 there will be a parade of ships accompanying Hermione arrival to Castine, Maine. The parade starts around 2pm.
According to website set up for the parade of ships, "The Parade of Ship will begin at 2:00 p.m. at a point west of Green Ledge, approximately 5.5 nm from the RW “CH” Bell at the entrance to Castine Harbor. Vessels in the Parade should gather at the designated Staging Area at 1:30 p.m. The Parade will form in the “Recommended Route for Deep Draft Vessels Entering Penobscot Bay.” This “shipping lane” should be free of lobster traps, but be wary of traps in other areas. The speed of the Parade is expected to be approximately 5 knots. Vessels will disburse upon approaching the RW “CH” Bell and the Hermione will proceed into the harbor. All vessels must stand clear of the Hermione as she maneuvers to become secured at the town dock.
VHF Channel 72 will be used for communication by vessels in the Parade.
In the event of hazardous weather conditions, cancellation of the Parade will be announced by 12:00 p.m. via email and VHF Channel 72".
The purpose of this Parade is to welcome Hermione and the Spirit of Lafayette to Castine. Marquis de Lafayette was instrumental in our nation winning independence. It will be an historic moment when we welcome Hermione to Castine Harbor on Bastille Day.
