Sea Dogs Top Rock Cats 7-5 to Win Series

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs won their first series of the season, taking the rubber match over New Britain on Wednesday by a final score of 7-5.

Playing at a special 11:00 AM start and wearing uniforms that all sported the number 42 for Jackie Robinson Day, the Sea Dogs posted a new season high with 7 runs scored and tied a season high with 10 hits.

Henry Ramos, Reed Gragnani, and Jonathan Roof each finished the game with 2 hits apiece for Portland.  Kevin Heller, making his second start of the season, added 3 RBI.

After New Britain took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on an RBI double by Tommy

Murphy, the Sea Dogs tied it up in the 3rd on Heller's sacrifice fly.  Portland then scored 2 runs in each of the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to extend their lead to 7-2 after 6.

Sea Dogs starter Justin Haley went 4 innings and allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6.  Jonathan Aro (2-0) picked up his second win of the season, pitching 3 innings in relief and allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6.  A day after Sea Dogs pitchers combined to strike out 10 Rock Cats, they set a new season high with 14 strikeouts in today's outing.  Dayan Diaz picked up his first save of the season after entering the game in the bottom of the 9th with  the tying runs on base and two outs and striking out Jayson Langfels to end the game.

With the victory, the Sea Dogs take the three-game series with New Britain and finish their opening homestand at 3-3.  They'll begin their first road trip of the season tomorrow evening at Trenton to take on the Thunder, first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.  Portland's seven-game road trip will take them to Trenton and New Britain before the Sea Dogs return home to Hadlock Field on April 23rd.  For tickets, visit the Sea Dogs website at www.seadogs.com or call the ticket office at 207-879-9500.
