Springvale, Maine - The York County CareerCenter in Springvale continues its workshop programs for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.
"For Maine to be competitive with other states, we need a skilled, prepared workforce," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "Our CareerCenter workshops can help you identify a career path and training resources or better sell yourself in resumes and interviews. I encourage job seekers and those looking for a career change to visit their local Maine CareerCenter."
CareerCenters can assist businesses by offering workshops on location, at local businesses or other organizations at no cost. The following workshops and programs will be held at the CareerCenter in Springvale unless otherwise noted.
Resume Writing - Tuesday, May 5, 9 a.m. to noon. Explore the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match what the employer needs. Registration is required.
Networking and Civic Engagement--Two New Things To Consider In Your Job Search Process - Thursday, May 7, 9 a.m. to noon You've heard about networking, but think, "I'm out of work or looking for work. Who am I going to network with?" Or maybe you think you just can't do it. Learn what networking is, and what it isn't, and why it's important to incorporate a few new "tips," to move your employment search along. The whole process isn't as scary as it sounds.
In addition, find out how Civic Engagement (also known as volunteering), can help you develop
skills, contacts and relationships that can give you new experiences to put on your resume, while doing good for others and getting you out of the house and away from your computer screen! Registration required.
Essentials of College Planning Workshop - Monday, May 11, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Randi Paine from the Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) will be offering a free workshop for adults 19 and older covering topics on College Awareness and Planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process. The instructor will assist participants in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Competitive Skills Scholarship Program Accepting Applications - The Competitive Skills Scholarship helps workers learn new skills and succeed in a changing economy. The program is open to all qualified Maine residents and pays for education and training for high-wage jobs in demand in Maine. York County is currently accepting applications for the program. Springborn Staffing - A Springborn representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter on Monday May 11 and 18 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Openings are available for experienced production, assembly and warehouse personnel. CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. I agree that as a jobseeker you must sell yourself in resumes and interviews. Before attempting to write your own resume you must first learn the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match what the employer needs.
