Canada Lynx in Maine‏

Camden/Rockport, Maine - Wildlife biologist Jennifer Vashon will lead a presentation about the current status of Canada Lynx in the state of Maine at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, April 7 at 12:00 pm.

Maine is currently the only state with notable populations of Canada Lynx. While these big cats are plentiful across the border in Quebec, in the US they have been on the Endangered Species List since 2000. However, new estimates suggest Lynx populations may be on the rise. In addition to speaking about Lynx biology and behavior, Vashon will discuss current research about why Lynx populations may be recovering and what those numbers mean for wildlife and state regulations.

Jennifer Vashon is wildlife biologist with Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. She has been studying Lynx in Maine since the early 2000s.

The Winter Talk series is co-sponsored by Allen Insurance & Financial, and Farley & Son Landscaping. Tuesday Talks are open to the public for $5, with free admittance for Merryspring members.

Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just off Rt. 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza in Camden. For more information, call Merryspring at 236-2239, email info@merryspring.org or visit our website at www.merryspring.org.
