“Cosi Fan Tutte” Continues the NY Met’s HD Simulcast Season at The Grand!

Ellsworth, Maine - The “Live in HD” high-definition simulcast series of productions from The New York Metropolitan Opera continues its 2013/14 season at The Grand on Saturday, April 26th at 1 pm.  Cosi Fan Tutte is Lesley Koenig's production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte's  fascinating operatic paradox- a frothy comedy of manners with an intensely dark take on human nature, which features the return of the Met's legendary conductor James Levine.  Tickets are $26 for adults and seniors, $24 for members, and $19 for students.

“The Met: Live in HD,” the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live transmissions offering a significant portion of the Met season to DownEast and MidCoast Maine communities, continues its eighth season with Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte. Marking Music Director James Levine’s return to the Met after a two year absence due to injury, the opera tells the deceptively simple story of two friends who brag that their fiancées (who happen to be sisters) are incapable of infidelity. An older, more philosophical man bets that he can prove them wrong in 24 hours and enlists the help of the sisters’ devious maid to help him in his practical joke.  The cast is filled with youthful Met stars: the American Lyric Soprano Susanna Phillips and American Lyric Mezzo-Soprano Isabel Leonard are the sisters Fiordiligi and Dorabella, the American Lyric Tenor Matthew Polenzani and the Russian Baritone Rodion Pogossov are their lovers, with the Australian Lyric Soprano Danielle de Niese as the scheming Despina and the Italian bass-baritone Maurizio Muraro as Don Alfonso. Supporting Koenig in this production are Set and Costume Designer Michael Yeargan and Lighting Designer Duane Schuler.
