Themed cruises are all-inclusive vacations lasting four or six days with three meals and snacks daily, an island lobster bake, shore excursions, and learning opportunities with expert guests included in passenger rates. The minimum age for passengers is 15.
A first of its kind "Maine Craft Beers and Home Brewing" cruise is set for June 17-22. Capt. King will brew and bottle a batch of his own nut brown ale on the boat. Maine beers will be sampled and paired with evening meals, and the Mary Day will make a dockside visit to the Marshall Wharf Brewing Co. in Belfast, Maine, where passengers will have a tour and tasting.
The six-day sail will provide a unique Maine coast beer adventure, and is the perfect Father's Day gift for anyone who loves craft beer. Learn history and stories from lighthouse historian and author Ted Panyatoff, and photograph lights from vantage points you can only get on the water. A goal during each cruise is to tour the inside of a working light.
Cultural & Natural History, June 10-15 - See and learn about Atlantic puffins, auks, shearwaters, petrels, seals and their pups with the help of Audubon naturalists Mike and Margi Shannon. Learn about the natural events that have shaped remote coastal villages. This six-day cruise is a rich and rare chance to hear about the intertwined history of the wildlife and people that define the uniqueness of the Maine coast.
Nature & Photography, June 24-29 - Learn about Maine's intertidal ecology and hone photography skills at the same time during this six-day sailing adventure. Professional photographer Jim Dugan will teach how to capture photos expertly with a modest digital camera, and give a presentation of his own work. Audubon naturalist Erika Carlson-Rhile will point out the interesting flora and fauna that make Maine's ocean, coast and islands so interesting.
Tallship Sailing & Seamanship, Aug. 13-18 - All passengers become part of the crew during this hands-on six-day trip when Capt. King and Jane Ahlfeld, lead waterfront instructor at the WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, Maine, teach general seamanship, coastal navigation, and marlinespike seamanship. Passengers will work as a team while learning how to trim and handle sails, steer, plot a course, stitch a ditty bag, or go aloft to stow the topsails, then take command on the last day to utilize the skills they have learned throughout the week.
