Sea Dogs win streak snapped a four, 6-0 loss to Richmond

Jarren Duran picks up two hits in the loss

Portland, Maine - The Richmond Flying Squirrels (20-36) scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (20-35), 6-0, Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. The series now features a rubber game on Thursday morning.

RHP Alfred Gutierrez (3-2) worked around five walks and three hits to earn the win for Richmond. Gutierrez worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth and fifth innings.

Despite the loss, RHP Denyi Reyes (1-7), yielded just two hits after the first inning and worked six frames on six hits, four runs, one walk, and two strikeouts.

The Flying Squirrels went to work right away against Reyes. C.J. McElroy (2-for-4) led off the game with a double and scored on a two-base hit by Jalen Miller (2-for-5). Reyes retired the next two batters, but Zach Houchins (4 RBI) smacked a three-run homer (#3) over the Maine Monster.

Richmond added two runs in the eighth inning against Jordan Weems. Jacob Heyward (2-for-4) delivered a run-scoring double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Houchins. Weems did record four strikeouts over two innings pitched.

Newly promoted CF Jarren Duran finished 2-for-5 with his first Double-A extra-base hit, a double in the first. Duran is leading all of the minors with a .387 average. Bobby Dalbec reached base three times with a single and two walks. Joey Curletta walked twice, and Jhon Nunez went 1-for-4.

Richmond's bullpen fired four innings on just two hits. Chase Johnson worked three innings on two hits and four strikeouts. Tyler Cyr pitched a perfect ninth.
