Binghamton, NY - The Portland Sea Dogs (17-34) set three offensive franchise records in a 20-2 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (30-19) on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Portland set new team records in runs, hits (26), and total bases. They hit six homers, the most since May 29th at Norwich.
RHP Tanner Houck (5-4) worked out of bases loaded and nobody out jam in the first and earned the win for Portland. Houck scattered three hits, three walks, and fanned seven.
Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Brett Netzer. In the fifth, the 'Dogs knocked the league leader in ERA, Anthony Kay (L, 6-3), out of the game. The second run scored on a throwing error by the catcher, which brought Joshua Torres in for Kay. Tate Matheny (4-for-6, 2 HR, 6 RBI) greeted Torres with a three-run homer. Later in the inning, Denier Lopez hit a three-run, his first of the season.
Bobby Dalbec hit two solo-homers (9, 10), and the 'Dogs scored six times in the seventh inning against David Roseboom. Keith Curcio led off the frame with a solo-shot (#2), Cody Asche cleared the bases with a double and Matheny hit a two-run shot, his third homer this week.
In the ninth inning against position player Jason Krizan, Portland scored five runs on seven hits. Dalbec led off with a solo homer to left. Lopez, Matheny, and Tobias all had run-scoring hits.
Portland batted around three times and hit all six homers off Binghamton's bullpen.
