FH: Britney Gregoire Nets a Pair in Season-Opening Win

WATERVILLE, Maine – Freshman Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) netted her first two collegiate goals less than a minute apart to lead the Thomas College field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine in their season opener Friday night at Bernatchez Field.

Haley Thebarge (Smithfield, Maine) notched the Terriers' first goal of the season at the 21:44 mark of the first half on a score assisted by Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) to give Thomas the 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, USM pulled back even 3:39 into the frame on a goal by Hanna Trottier-Braun to knot the game at 1-1. Gregoire netted her two goals at the 62:11 and 62:49 marks to push the Terriers ahead 3-1, then Danita Storey (Cumberland, Maine) notched her first of the season with 20 second remaining to cap off the 4-1 victory.

Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine) picked up the win in the cage for Thomas, recording one save on two shots. Lindsay Pych was given the loss for USM.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Thomas starts the season 1-0 for the third consecutive year, after picking up wins against USM in their season opener last year (1-0) and in 2016 (2-1).
  • The Terriers' four goals are the most the team has scored in a game since September 3, 2016, when they defeated Nichols 5-1.
