UNE cruises to victory in opening race

STANDISH, Maine -- Emily Wasina, Kiera Murray, Jasmine Syed, and Jija Young finished 1-2-3-4 as the University of New England women's cross country team captured the Saint Joseph's College Invitational with a score of 16 on Saturday morning (Sep.1).

Wasina's first competitive action since the 2016 season produced a 5K time of 21:19 to best the 54-runner field. Murray (21:22), Syed (21:31), and Young (21:40) followed in short order.

With a runner from the Monks in the fifth spot, Dani Jewell wrapped up UNE's total by placing 6th (22:09).

St. Joe's posted a score of 46, with the University of Maine-Farmington back at 83.

The Nor'easters will host the UNE Invitational next Saturday (10:45 a.m.) at Rotary Park.
