MSOC: Morrissey's Overtime Winner Puts Thomas Over Bears

GORHAM, Maine – Josh Morrissey (Scarborough, Maine) scored the game-winner in overtime to help the Thomas College men's soccer team open their season with a 2-1 win over Coast Guard on Friday at the University of Southern Maine.

The Bears struck first in the 22nd minute on a Greg Burnham goal assisted by Patrick Palermo-Re. That lead would hold until the 89th minute when Zenawi Bowen (St. George's, Bermuda) found the back of the net off a direct kick. Morrissey sent the Terriers home victorious with the game-winning goal five minutes into overtime on a goal assisted by Justin Bell (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda).

Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H.) earned the victory, making two saves on three shots. Dakota Harich was given the loss for Coast Guard after allowing two goals on four shots.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Morrissey's overtime goal was the first for the Terriers since October 23 2016, when Tevin Reid notched a game-winner against Colby-Sawyer in the 105th minute.
  • The teams were even in total shots, while Thomas held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
