LEWISTON - The Lewiston CareerCenter continues its no-cost workshop programs for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.
"The summer tourism season provides plentiful opportunities for Maine workers to find jobs best suited to their skills," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "Our record-low unemployment means employers are searching for applicants; I encourage you to visit any CareerCenter for help searching for a new or better job. They will work with you to improve your resume and interview skills."
CareerCenters can assist businesses by offering workshops on location, at local businesses or other organizations at no cost.All workshops are located at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way, Lewiston, unless otherwise noted.
**CareerCenter Services Orientation - Tuesday, July 3, 9 to 11 a.m.**
This is an overview of programs at the CareerCenter, eligibility requirements and information on accessing services held on the first Tuesday of every month. Register at 753-9005
**Introduction to Self-Employment Workshop - Thursday, July 12, 10a.m. to 12 noon**
This introductory workshop will help you decide whether self-employment is the right choice for you. The class covers the pros and cons of owning your own business, the elements of a business plan, and the many resources available to help you succeed. Register at 557-1885
**Resume Basics and Build a Resume Workshop - Friday, July 13,10 a.m. to 12 noon**
Learn the basic dos and donts of resume writing; how to stand out in a positive way by marketing yourselfon paperin a way that directly matches employer needs. Computers will be available and you will be able to compose a draft resume with staff assistance.Please bring your work history profile from Maine JobLink. Must be able to type your own resume. **Orientation for People with Disabilities - Wednesday, July 25, 2 to 3 p.m.**
For people with disabilities who are considering vocational rehabilitation servicesare held the fourth Wednesday of the month. Service providers are also welcome to attend. Registration not required.
**New Mainers Workshop - Thursday, July 26, 9 to 11 a.m.**
How to complete paper and online job applications. Somali interpreter will be on hand, if other language interpreters are needed, request by June 12.Register at 753-9005.
**Essentials of College Planning for Adults - By Appointment**
Basic steps for successful college enrollment: learn about college and trade schools, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures & financial aid. Register by calling 1-800-281-3703. Bring last years income tax forms to the appointment.
**Interview Assistance - By Appointment**
One on one interview help is available to you, as needed. Please inquire at the Information Desk to check staff availability or set up an appointment. Register at 753-9005.
**NO LEWISTON CAREERCENTER JOB FAIR IN JULY**: Please check the Job Fair tab on www.mainecareercenter.gov for Job Fairs in other cities. For online job searches, look at www.joblink.maine.gov.
CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and ONet software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
