BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England tallied a goal in each
half to take a 2-0 victory over Western New England University in
Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon
(Oct. 10) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The Nor'easters continue to
sit atop the conference standings, upping their CCC ledger to 5-0 while
improving to 9-3 overall. Western New England falls to 3-9-2 (1-3-1
CCC).
UNE got the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute when Jessica Meader headed home a cross from the right corner by Brionne Turcotte. Taylor Littlefield got the play going and was credited with a secondary assist. The goal pushed Meader's team-leading total to six.
The Nor'easters doubled their lead early in the second half. Anna Michaud fed Jackie Dickerson at the top of the box, and Dickerson drove a shot from just left-of-center into the net for her fourth marker.
UNE controlled play much of the afternoon, building a 20-6 advantage in shots and 5-2 margin in corner kicks. Brielle Robinson needed just two saves to register the shutout.
Briana Kubik was busy in goal for Western New England, totaling nine stops.
Both
teams are back in action next week with mid-week road games. UNE faces
the University of Southern Maine Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) and the Golden
Bears take on Westfield State University Wednesday (7 p.m.).
