(Williamstown, MA) - The Bates Bobcats volleyball team (5-7,
2-2) hung in there with a tough Williams Ephs squad (9-5, 3-1) but ended
up getting swept 17-25, 21-25, 18-25 Friday night.
Nicole Peraica tallied seven kills to lead the Bobcats.
Bates found themselves down 11-4 in the first set but rallied to cut the deficit to 13-12. A service ace from Augy Silver and two service aces from Laryssa Schepel
helped spark the rally. But Williams called timeout and proceeded to go
on a 5-0 run thanks in part to three errors on the part of the Bobcats.
The teams traded points after that but Williams emerged victorious in
set one.
Set two saw the Bobcats once again go toe-to-toe with the Ephs as Chandler McGrath
got her first kill of the match. She would finish the night with six
kills. Bates pulled to within three points at 19-16 but Williams scored
four of the next five points to take command of the set.
Bates grabbed a 6-5 lead in the third set but the Ephs
would slowly pull away yet again. Williams got 13 kills from Ally Ostrow
and 11 kills each from Mia Weinland and Roxi Corbeil in the match.
Bates will look to get back on the winning track Saturday afternoon at Amherst. The match starts at 2:00 p.m. and fans can watch live online.
