Trekking in Patagonia

Trekking in Patagonia May 12

Hope resident Sandie Sabaka will give an illustrated talk on “Trekking in Patagonia” at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00 pm. Sabaka made a month-long solo adventure to Southern Patagonia last January. From deep in a Maine winter she flew to 53° South into the austral summer and started traveling by plane, bus, and foot to the three distinct parks of Valle Chacabuco, Los Glaciares (Fitz Roy), and Torres Del Paine in Chile and Argentina. This renowned region has inspired climbers and outdoor gear companies for decades with its spiky granite towers, fjords, and glaciers, as well as its unusual wildlife of guanacos, rheas, and penguins.

Sabaka is a lifelong outdoorswoman, park ranger, avid hiker, backpacker, and skier with itchy feet. She has spent the last 13 years thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and traveling the globe, one footprint at a time, but always eager to come home and share her photos and experiences, hoping to inspire others — especially women  — to leave their comfort zone and see the world.
