New state-of-the-art expanded facility will put Portland on the map for recreational rock climbers
Portland, Maine - Mayor Michael Brennan and Portland City officials will celebrate the grand opening tomorrow of Evo Rock + Fitness’ new state-of-the-art facility at 65 Warren Avenue in Portland. The climbing gym features more than 16,000 sf of climbing, 42 foot walls, a large bouldering area, lead climbing, climbing for kids, fitness and more bringing the potential to attract many new visitors to Portland.
Founded in Concord, NH, Evo Rock + Fitness (otherwise known as Evolution Rock + Fitness) has added two new facilities into the mix this year with Portland being the second ground up project for the brand. The City of Portland has long awaited a facility like Evo Rock + Fitness, which will fulfill the growing needs of the area.
This project was made possible by combining forces with the Maine Rock Gym, formerly on Marginal Way. The Maine Rock Gym was started in 1994 by Scott Howard. Through the years, the facility has not been able to keep up with demand due to its size. The new facility on Warren Avenue is more than four times the size of the 2,800 square-foot former location.
The development team received a Portland Development Corporation loan for gap financing.
