The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a dangerous, invasive insect that has the potential to seriously impact Maine’s forests and timber industry. Already spotted in neighboring New Hampshire, this beetle is rapidly spreading throughout the United States. This program is designed to teach the general public of how to identify the EAB, how to recognize signs of infestation, how to report findings, and how to prevent its spread. After an indoor lecture, guests of this program will head out to the Merryspring grounds to identify, inspect, and tag Ash trees to raise awareness of the threat of the EAB.
This event is offered free to everyone as a public service. Families are encouraged to attend. Guests may want to bring a snack or bagged lunch. A portion of this program will take place outdoors, so guests are advised to wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.
No sign up is necessary for this program. For more information please contact Merryspring at 236-2239 or info@merryspring.org.
